Snow Days

This week the clouds decided to drop snow rather than rain. The clouds are still here, but at least the snow gives back a little more light than the roads and pavement. It also meant that the birds were very active in my garden due to the cold weather. I had to top up the feeders as they were munching their way through loads. I decided to see if I could take some pictures of them from the lounge window. As I've not been out with the camera a lot recently due to the dull grey skies, it gave some light relief.

To top it off I had a Goldcrest that stayed around quite a while for me.

Female Blackbird does not look best pleased with the snow.

This Coal Tit looked blended in well.

Europe's smallest bird, the Goldcrest. So small and so fast. It never stays still.

Hard to beat a Robin in the snow.

  1. They are certainly amazing to fly in snow. It would be so hard to be frozen I thought

  2. Hello :=) It is a wonder how these little birds survive on the snow covered ground where the food pickings are few. Lovely little Goldcrest and robin captures.

  3. Hello,
A wonderful variety of garden birds. I am sure they appreciate the bird seed.
The Goldcrest is sweet, similar to our Golden Crowned Kinglet. Awesome photos.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend.

  4. The photos with the wings spread are very neat. Love seeing the details of each bird as they show up against the snow. Beautiful!

  7. Snow and birds make an amazing combination from a photographic standpoint, and you have used it to great advantage, Adam.

  8. Your snow was deeper than our own Adam. We had a sprinkling that was all. You didn't waste the opportunity and it is very striking how all of those birds are in good condition, the Goldcrest especially so with that orange top.

Oh, well done on the Goldcrest captures! All of these shots are delightful. Up here in Dunoon, I am limited almost entirely to gulls and pigeons! YAM xx

  18. So cold! I'd have the same expression as the blackbird if I were in it!! It was fun to see your feeder shots -- so different from your usual adventures but equally wonderful photos. The Goldcrest is so sweet and tiny -- I learned something new for sure. Had no idea! ( So I also learned I guess that there are no hummingbirds in Europe?? I will visit Mr Google. Sometimes I forget that I have an encyclopedia here at my fingertips.)
