I had a couple of hours spare last weekend and went for a walk around Hollingworth lake in Rochdale. The weather has been truly dreadful of late, so I was just glad to get out without a howling wind or heavy rain.
It was a leisurely stroll and not a great deal on the water, but enjoyable all the same as the sun began to set.
I can't wait for Spring and some potentially drier, less windy spells of weather. Not a guarantee in this part of the world though.

A Cormorant in with some Lapwings.
A distant Kingfisher watching a Great Crested Grebe.
Great to see these beautiful birds !!
ReplyDeleteAs always your photos are excellent !!

What is the purpose of the wire fencing in the pond? The kingfisher seems to think it's seating for him, but I believe there must be another function?

Hi Sue, I believe the wire is to create a raft and protect the plants that have been cleverly planted in the middle of it. It will stop them floating away until well established. :)
DeleteAwesome variety of birds. I would love to see your Lapwing and the Kingfisher. Gorgeous birds and photos. Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteThe weather hasn't been the best has it Adam, although I think we have slightly less rain on the East coast of Scotland.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for spring either.
I love birds too and have a photo this week of an owl. My bird feeders are costing me a fortune but they're well worth it to see so many visitors.
Thanks for sharing and let's hope this next week is a little drier!
We are just starting winter..with above average temps..almost 70 today..it's to be in the 30's this weekend which is more normal for this time of year..Beautiful birds..What is the wire for??

DeleteWonderful images of such lovely birds. But I have the same question as Sue above, why is there wire in the pond?
