The Greenshank and Snipe

The waders are moving around at the moment, and I had some great views of two in particular at the weekend. A Greenshank and the Common Snipe. The Snipe is one of my favourite birds. Very peculiar looking with a ridiculously long bill for the birds size, but useful for probing the ground for food.
The Geeenshank has long legs and guess what? They are green. It is a very graceful bird as it walks around the edges of the shore line.

Common Snipe, with it's great bill.

The juvenile Greenshank and Snipe together.

  4. I think you've captured well the character of the greenshank! We have Wilson's snipes here - very similar to your common snipe. :)

  8. Great photos of both birds. I especially like the Greenshank and the reflection in the water. Greenshanks migrate down here to Australia but I haven't seen any yet this season. It might be a little early for them.

  9. These are lovely photos!
It looks like that long bill would almost get in the way.

  10. Great set of pictures - I like the one with both birds in the same shot - too long a bill, too long in the leg!

Turns out the flamingos can be seen in Dubai year round - but I agree, I would have taken a long time to have come up with "The UAE" in a "Where is the picture from" competition!

    Thanks for linking to WBW.
