Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you

Lockdown easing.

Thanks to a change in government guidelines, I was able to travel to my parents last week and stay overnight. It was so good to see them again after 3 long months.
I did my birding nice and early in the morning so as to avoid others, and headed to places I knew would be very quiet at 5am in the morning (yes, most places are, but I wasn't taking any risks).
I headed to Salthouse, a beach I know that is very quiet, unless you are a bird. I enjoyed watching the Sandwich Terns tracking the shoreline up and down while squawking as they did.
The weather was good, with warm sunshine from very early. Always a help when stood still for some time and the light helps the pictures.

One of the many Sandwich Terns seen over the week.

With a what looks like a sand eel.

There were only a few Common Tern around.

There were very good numbers of Mediterranean Gulls along the coast.

Similar in size to a Black-headed Gull, but with a distinctive black hood and orangey bill and legs.

  3. It's a long time since I walked Salthouse. It's also good to see the terms doing well. Can't remember if Little Terms are/were still there. Med Hill have really taken off everywhere haven't they? I'll bet your parents were really happy to see you Adam. Even if you then disappeared birding!

  6. I haven't seen my Dad since March 16 so I'm glad that you got to see your parents. I love that part of the Norfolk coast - a friend lives in cromer so I have wandered about that area a lot.

  7. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos! As an "owl" I'd have hardly a chance to watch birds so early in the morning. Honestly, all respect! :-)

  8. Since we don't have any family, it wasn't as hard on us to stay home for all of these months. Even so, it is nice to be able to get out in natural places, with masks and distancing of course. - Margy

  12. I love seeing the fishing birds like yours when they have their quarry in their beak -- a fish, an eel... Osprey do this a lot. Yesterday I saw a kingfisher with a fish in his beak.

  15. I think that any time to achieve aerial shots of terns, the ballerinas of the sky, you have done well!

  19. How good to see family. Ontario is doing pretty well. We've a bubble with our kids, and have the grandkids all summer, every other week, so their parents can actually work!

  20. I'm glad things are lightening up a bit for you all. We seem to be the bad children of the world here in the states -- it's getting worse, not better. So still be careful. Too many spots here opened too soon. Loved all the images.
