Fieldfare

Fieldfares had been pretty elusive for me in the last few months, until a few weeks ago when I went for a local walk at Woodford. I came across around 40 birds in a snow covered field. The berries on the trees had long been eaten and so the search for food was on the ground.
They are pretty flighty birds and are spooked easily. So this was a game of patience.
I had to wait and let them come to me. They duly obliged.

  2. Fieldfare and Redwing are two species I have never succeeded in seeing during my visits to Europe. Always there at the wrong time of year I guess. Maybe one day.....

  19. They are such a pretty understated bird ...I like seeing great pictures of the ones you have to look at a bit more carefully in order to see the beauty. (As opposed to, for instance, your goldfinch or our cardinals, whose bright colors make me gasp immediately.). Patience is the name of the game in birding...I pray to receive the blessing of that trait (and I want it right now ;)). Glad you already possess it ... and great photo talent as well.
