Pied Wagtail

I've recently discovered a Pied Wagtail roost site in the centre of Manchester. I was aware of there being some around previously, but not where this one is situated. It's on a particularly busy road with restaurants and offices. In the mornings on my way to work I could here them but never see them. Then one morning just as the sun was coming up I counted 35 leaving the roost site. It was quite a spectacle, and noise, as they are not the quietest of birds. There may have been more, and judging by the mess on the pavement I'm sure there are. A count of around 50 has been seen since.
I managed to take a some close-up shots of one at Elton reservoir last week.

  6. He's a cute little fellow. I'm not sure I've ever seen one here - they may not make it "over the pond". Thanks for linking up at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2015/11/sparkling-crystal.html

  9. Nice close-ups Adam. It's good to find a roost and so interesting and difficult to try and count them in (or out). Your local ringers would be interested in knowing of a roost site.

  10. I had no idea that they flocked together in a roost. I frequently sighted a single one in our garden this summer - although not for the last couple of months. Beautiful capture of the pied wagtail by the reservoir.

  11. Nice images of these handsome birds. They certainly can adapt to human disturbance.

  12. Beautiful shots of the wagtail, Adam. I don't see wagtail roosts in these parts - more's the pity!

  18. Nice little bird - used to have these and Greys in the village I was born in. Any wagtail would be a mega bird here.

  20. I never knew pied wagtails roosted together. My Mum has a couple of birds that are always bobbing about n her lawn and we see them here in France on a regular basis but only in small numbers. I wonder if they go back to a local communal roost at night? #AnimalTales
