Looking a little Ruff

Ruff seem to be in very good numbers this year. Either that, or I've not paid enough attention previously. Each wetland site I've been to recently has oodles of them. Every time I look up and wonder "ooh what's that" the binoculars confirm its a Ruff. I suppose it could be a lot worse, they are actually a really lovely looking wader.
These pictures were taken at Titchwell last week, where once again there were lots.

  3. These are great pics. I'm glad you have the ones without the fancy plumage. I've always wondered if I could ID this bird if I ever see it. Thanks for sharing and showing us some nice close up field marks.

  6. I really like the pattern on the birds' feathers. I don't think I've ever seen a Ruff here in Iowa.

  7. He's a rare visitor to Texas. One was spotted earlier this year, but I didn't get to see it. Hopefully, it will come back.

I have great memories of watching huge flocks of Oycs on the Solway many years ago.
