Norfolk Birding (again)

A long weekend at my parents always gives me the opportunity to look for birds that I don't really get on my doorstep. This visit was no different, with some really good views of two Glossy Ibis and loads of Bearded Tits. Add to that the waders and sea birds such as Curlew, Lapwings, Dunlin, Ringed Plovers, Gannets and Terns. The weather was very good on the first day, and then very cloudy on the second, but I made the most of both days and managed to capture a good collection of species. I even got some decent video too.

You can watch my latest adventure here:

Linnet - Beeston Regis

About a month or so ago the weather was warm and sunny, and many birds were just pairing up. This is always a good time to see birds out in the open and often on perches. They're staking out their territory and keeping an eye out for what's around.
One bird that was in abundance in Norfolk, was the Linnet. They seemed to be every 1 in 3 birds seen. I'm sure they weren't, but they were everywhere and very showy. Of course, if you have a camera with you this gives ample opportunity to try and get some pictures.

Kelling Heath

I wanted to discover a new site the last time I was at my parents. So I sought out Kelling Heath. It turns out that what I thought was Kelling Heath previously, was actually a mile and half away from the proper site.
It was a bright morning, not particularly warm, but there was plenty of activity on the heath.
From the car park I could hear plenty of bird song, with Skylarks, Linnets and Yellowhammer calling in the distance and my first Chiffchaff of the year.
It's a fantastic place, and I can imagine this being alive with Cuckoo calls in a few weeks time, maybe even Turtle Dove. It is supposed to be home to the Dartford Warbler and Adders, so I will be visiting again soon.

Linnets were in very good numbers on the gorse.

Great to see Yellowhammers in good numbers. One more for the year list.

RSPB South Stack

I had a lovely time at South Stack on the island of Anglesey in later Spring. There was a lot going on, as birds were busy pairing up, nest building and some were only just arriving to these shores following their migration.
The weather was perfect and it was a joy to be in amongst some lovely looking birds in all their summer finery.

Attenborough Nature Reserve

I've not had much time to get this week, so I have delved into the archives again for this post.
I visited Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham last summer. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful place. Plenty of bird life and all very varied too. Lots of Common Tern, Little Egrets, Herons, Hobby, plus many different varieties of warblers. All in all, it's somewhere I'd love to go back to. I'd recommend it to anyone.
