You see all sorts on the water. If you're lucky you'll get to see something a little out of the ordinary, but most of the time it's the same old suspects. These shouldn't be taken for granted though. Once upon a time the Tree and House Sparrow were very common sights in this country. Enjoy what's in front of you no matter how familiar they are.
Canada Goose
Coot
Moorhen
Once you start to look closely, even the most common birds are rather wonderful!

Those are wonderful close ups. I see a lot of Canada Geese here but my sightings of the Coot are rare and don't believe I've ever seen a Moorhen. Your photos are great and very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Geese, Coots and the moorhen.. I see lots of Canada geese and Coots here but the Moorhen is a little more uncommon bird. Thanks for linking up with Saturday's Critters. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWell put Adam, and some great shots you have posted.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Gordon.
I see the moorhen and coots, but the Canadian Goose isn't here this far south. I enjoyed those photos very much Adam.

Photographing the Moorhens are a difficult to catch, they eat furiously, well done the photos Adam.
ReplyDeleteWell I certainly enjoyed these, yes! :) Wonderful beautiful shots / never take anything for granted / exotic OR everyday...to me, these shots are not everyday as I am not near the water...they are quite special :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds and great reflection shot of the moorhen too...they are pretty hard to find aren't they? I am glad it is OK to take pictures of the usual suspects. Because if it were not, I'd hardly ever have any pictures at all.
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts about these common water fowl. It's often not the subject but the quality of the image and the use of natural light!! These images are really beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots of great clarity.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures. Familiar sights and sounds are comforting and I never grow tired of them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the usual suspects. I mostly see the same birds while out walking, but I always enjoy seeing them.
ReplyDeleteDo you know I wrote a similar blog post not so long back after spending an hour or so photographing a Robin, it is amazing how we neglect the birds we see everyday on local patches and focus our attention on the out of the ordinary (although I have fallen in love with a pair of Great-crested Grebe on the local lake I watch as they are so interesting to watch).
ReplyDeleteOh and I can't go without saying your cover photo at the top is simply stunning.
Very true sentiments Adam. What good advice to accompany those lovely portraits of the common Canada Goose.
ReplyDeleteBeutiful photos. Enjoyed seeing the coot
ReplyDeleteIt's great to showcase the birds common to our area. What;s common to you may be quite exotic to me. ;)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous close ups!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photography and your statement is so true about enjoying what is right in front of you ~ xxx

Nice shots!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the reflection of the coot in the water!!!
ReplyDeletefine closeup on the canadian. :)
ReplyDeleteI never take the commoner species for granted. Without them our countryside would be a very barren place. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteCommon birds are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't see Canada Geese very often, so I love to see them in posts. Like EG Camera Girl said, what's common to you is exotic to someone else. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteAh, I love them all!
