Nuthatch

I had a rare day off work that also entailed some time to myself. So I took the opportunity to take the binoculars and the camera to my local patch. Not much was around so I ventured a few miles down the road to Bramhall, The woods were alive with the sound of birds marking territory and suddenly Spring is upon us.
This Nuthatch was very vocal. Either it wasn't keen on me being there or there was another bird in the vicinity. Either way he put on a good show. Unfortunately it was a little dark due to the cloud cover, so some of the shots are a little grainy and I forgot my monopod, so these are handheld.

There were plenty of squirrels scurrying around. This little guy was having a light snack.

  5. I miss nuthatches!! They were always at my grandmother's feeders and at my feeders where I lived when raising my sons. Here, nary a one and there's been plenty of food out there all winter. So I love your shots! :)

  11. The woods were alive with the sound of music...from the birds!!! I like that reference. Yep, Spring is such a great time for birds. And your photo shares this week are outstanding. Beautiful bird...love the dotted under-tail!! [there is probably a scientific name for the area on the bird, but darned if I know]

  14. You captured some salient features of the Nuthatch there Adam. I like the way they pose on a branch and take a good look at you, always a little higher than you'd like and unwilling to come down to eye level. Always very vocal too - I can almost here the bird scolding you.

  18. What a cooperative little guy. Not 5 minutes ago I was watching a white-breasted one go up and down the tree outside my window. I have both red and white, but see the white more often.
