Redshanks, and especially their call, remind me of Norfolk and time spent with my parents, which is sadly few and far between these days. I always look forward to our time bird watching in Norfolk as I try to impart a little of my knowledge to them, so hopefully they can enjoy birding as much as I do. When I was in Colwyn Bay seeking that Purple Sandpiper, my ears pricked up as I heard the unmistakable call of the Redshank. Thoughts of my parents came flooding back and I had to locate them. When I did I just watched and followed with the camera as they skimmed across the sea and landed close by. Smashing birds.

Kudos to you for wanting to share your love of birding with your parents. Hope they catch the bug! I'd love to take photos of redshanks - very nice.
ReplyDeleteI try do the same with my parents and they've become pretty good at knowing the common species. They'll say "Corella" instead of "Cockatoo" for instance!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the Redshanks - such a sight would be a big deal in Australia, as they are rare vagrants here.
Wow! What a delight and great photos of nature's gems in action ~ Parents are a treasure too ~ thanks,

ReplyDeleteDimi...
Nice to see your Redshanks Adam. I like the species too, always on edge and seeming highly strung, ready to fly off with that unmistakeable alarm call. They are just brilliant in the breeding season when they have young about, almost as if they alarm call all day long.
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots and your header is f.a.b.u.l.o.u.s.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and great birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures of them in flight...and must say your header shot is fantastic.

really pretty in the sunlight.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, Adam!
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of my experience a couple of weeks ago. I heard the call of an American Robin. They are not very common here in Florida but I grew up with them all around me. Suddenly I realized that I was not a kid in New Jersey and that I was hearing something out of place!
ReplyDeleteSun, birds and water can never be wrong. Lovely series :)
