Burton Mere

These pictures were taken last Spring on an a visit to the RSPB reserve at Burton Mere on the Wirral. Lots of different birds on show and making themselves visible.
One of the birds I'd set out to see was the Great White Egret. There have been a few on the Wirral in the last 24 months. Needless to say, this was one of the birds that was not playing ball on this day.

Just a head at the top of the tree.

Giving a slightly better view.

  5. Oyster catchers always remind me of the North East coast where I first learnt their name.

  7. I checked Wikipedia and found the Wirral Peninsula between the Rivers Dee and Mersey. That would be the Mersey of Beatles fame, no doubt. Very interesting to someone who grew up in the 1960s. I also read that the woods, farmland, reed beds, salt marsh, beaches and lowland heath in your part of Britain are home to a wide variety of birds. No wonder, then, that you are such an excellent birder! I enjoyed this post very much.
