Lapwing

Breeding season is over and the autumn influx of waders has brought many to inland sites. Most have passed though now to their warmer winter homes, but quite a few will stay and overwinter at many of our inland lakes. Lapwings have been gathering in good numbers, and being able to look at some at close quarters just reminded me how colourful and pretty these birds are.

Standing almost motionless on the shoreline of a lake.

  10. I never tire of seeing and photographing Lapwings. I think it's because they are now so scarce as breeders. Lots in winter though - several thousand in our area now.

  26. Colors on the lapwing are so subtle, but glorious. I think I would be tucking my head in as well, as winter approaches! Thanks for your recent visit to my blog.

  27. I am always very happy to see pictures of Lapwings, surely one of the most beautiful of all the world’s shorebirds. It seems that every time I have visited the UK over the last thirty years or so, I have seen fewer and fewer of them. I can only hope that their numbers have at least stabilized or possibly are rebounding a little.

  29. I hope that the weather allows them to survive the winter...It is hard for diving ducks here...Michelle
