The Camera is out

I ventured out with my camera on Wednesday evening. It was about seven o'clock and very quiet everywhere in terms of people, so I thought it safe and okay to take my second walk of the day. It felt exciting again to be able to look through the viewfinder of the camera after such a long time. To see the bird come into focus and press the shutter button. So strange for something quite meaningless, but something that gives me great joy. I don't plan on taking the camera on all my walks, as it means stopping and that is not always ideal in these times. So early mornings and evenings for me, when it is at its quietest.

Anyhow, I managed to see quite a few birds, including some lovely House Martins, Swallows and Great Crested Grebes over and on the water. I also got to see quite a number of Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs. Hard to tell apart in looks, but always helps when they sing for you.

  7. This is my best time year for going out early Adam I'm looking at 4am starts next week if we get sunshine, the other "must". I agree, it's much better when willychiffs sing.

  9. I am so sorry I didn't bring my camera home with me from our trip to Arizona in February. We had planned to return by the end of March, but weren't able to. Now I'm here with only my older iPhone to use. It's better than nothing, but not very good for long distance shots. - Margy

  17. Awwww, it's so good to be able to get back out in nature after such a long lock down, isn't it? And your evening walk supplied us with wonderful photos. I'm very impressed with the beauty of the grebe.

As always, I thank you for taking time out in your day to show off your birds with us at I'd Rather B Birdin this week.

  18. As you say, Adam, many of the simple pleasures we took for granted have now become special events. I hope that you continue to enjoy your walks and take your camera with you often, so that we can share in the birds you see. This is certainly the time of year for a birder to be out and about to the greatest extent possible.

  26. Oh Adam, when you focus your camera it is very definitely *not* meaningless.... you share your joy with your readers! And I thank you for doing that! But I do understand what you mean ... just being able to do the things we used to take for granted is such a pleasure now. I guess that’s one positive thing to say about Covid. I’ll never take small pleasures for granted again!
