Last year I managed to locate one at Holme in Norfolk and this year I've seen several. In the New Forest there seemed to be a constant call of a Cuckoo wherever I was. It was great to step out of the hotel at first light and hear two or three different birds calling. Amazing
The bird pictured below was actually seen in Manchester. Next years aim will be to get some better shots. In the meantime, these will have to go as record shots and no more.
Oh wow, Adam Is that a Common Cuckoo (old name European Cuckoo)? At first glance I thought it was the Red-chested Cuckoo which has a strident call. The cuckoo is one of my favorite birds to see and photograph, however difficult. Great post. Jo

ReplyDeleteThose cuckoos will make you crazy! I've been trying to get the black-billed and yellow-billed that have been in our area...always at the top of a tree...and on the other side!

ReplyDeleteNice shots - they were always a herald of spring. One year we as kid we got to watch a young cuckoo grow up in a far too small nest in the hedge across the road from out house - it felt normal at the time, but in retrospect it was rather special.
