Dipper - Macclesfield
The Macclesfield Forest area is probably now my favourite local(ish) birding place. Although recently, there's not been a great deal about. It's that time of year when most things seem to go to ground. Gradually though they are coming back. I'd not seen a Dipper in the usual places for good will. I'm sure they were there but I had no luck. So I was delighted to catch up with a couple the other day on a stretch of river. Both were pretty oblivious to me, so I'll put this down to good field craft. I had the pleasure of watching and listening to one sing. It's rather unusual to try and strain your ears over the sound of fast running water, but I could see the throat warbling and it was a sweet tune too.
Great photos of a beautiful bird. Your "field craft" must indeed be very good to have the bird so relaxed while you were watching and photographing.
ReplyDeletewow, amazing shots of the dipper. Really lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a very pretty bird. Your shots were wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'll agree with you there Adam that good field craft was employed. I wouldn't expect to get such good shots of Dippers. That bird looks to be in super condiiiton too.
ReplyDeleteMuch nicer than the rather dull Brown Dippers here in Japan............
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos, Adam! How wonderful that you got to hear it sing, as well. We saw a dipper in the Grand Canyon many years ago, doing its thing in the water! That was so great!
ReplyDeleteIt is a craft to be able to capture wildlife. I have seen dippers on nature programs and they seem like neat little birds. I enjoyed seeing your photos and thank you for linking them into Nature Notes..Michelle
ReplyDeleteWow...very handsome!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots. The Dipper is a beautiful little bird.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photographs of a sweet little bird.
ReplyDeleteThese are great. They're all fantastic, but I think I love the first two best. Those should be in a birding magazine.
ReplyDeleteAlways magnificent bird photography ! ~ Love all of nature's gems!
