Moorhen

Quite often, those birds that we see quite frequently are taken for granted. I admit to that myself. I rarely point the camera at the Starlings or the Crows for example. But all birds have their own beauty. Such as this Moorhen. Close up, you get to see that it really has a lovely plumage, where from a distance it just looks black as it hot foots it away from you.

One beating a hast retreat.

  1. They are beautiful birds in their own right ... I always thought that the red on their face looks like someone took their thumb on their beak and pushed the red up into their face ... like finger painting :) I know, that's weird, but, we must have fun in life, right? Have a Happy Holiday ...

  3. I only ever think about the red above there beak and not the colour of their feathers. Thank-you for enlightening me.

  4. Beautiful feathers and the red beaks are real eye catchers. I have never seen one of this species.

  6. For me, it's grackles...we here in Texas see so many no matter where we go...it's all too common. Yet as you say, each bird has it's own beauty and fascinating features.

    Your photos are great Andrew.

  11. I agree that it is so nice to find beauty in the commonplace. That red upper part of their legs is striking, too. Best wishes!
