I just love it's crisp white and grey colouration. I don't see them that often, so that also adds to my enjoyment when I do get to see one. On an annual basis I tend to see them when they turn up locally in the Spring. At this time of year they are on passage and don't tend to stay on site very long before moving off again. </p><p>The particular bird photographed here I have been lucky to find on it's wintering patch, meaning that I was able to visit it on a number of occasions. At low tide on the mud flats of the Norfolk coast this bird likes to wander up and down probing for food. I secreted myself behind some boats so as not to disturb it, and was able to spend a good amount of time observing. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Greenshank</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYiMkZ5az10Vz2BZOf-3FMZqB58TmFOKwE9UlsIvB3jZEvpDV1-fbXF-bHFjj19pSfYXmbXjbIJh5zsobBrXAUidc9_zKTaX3Xd_juTVRhbwpfxx3N3jJgm3prksi8I_LwgNLiRxuldWfPeOTQIp5eUtaAEdjUNwIqQzOz7rRang7qZxO8b7Ps6A6lxxVc/s2054/Greenshank1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1574" data-original-width="2054" height="490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYiMkZ5az10Vz2BZOf-3FMZqB58TmFOKwE9UlsIvB3jZEvpDV1-fbXF-bHFjj19pSfYXmbXjbIJh5zsobBrXAUidc9_zKTaX3Xd_juTVRhbwpfxx3N3jJgm3prksi8I_LwgNLiRxuldWfPeOTQIp5eUtaAEdjUNwIqQzOz7rRang7qZxO8b7Ps6A6lxxVc/w640-h490/Greenshank1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1FShJ2FSqbpioTRskiUH8C9Dk2-mgwLHaddMVh7EEc130oVcLBCCgjTLQsNtkE7URzTMw037jtv-RFsrMuOQ5es_UfhzmFDWxpmcEZJ1ApOI63X3jutHDOFja9XTzpHHCkaWWgKWIFj6R9SJMaiNw00kdnoPwrJLmLreHlBkNuu4hSg74hiEejV98ADCo/s2113/Greenshank2-SharpenAI-Softness.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1603" data-original-width="2113" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1FShJ2FSqbpioTRskiUH8C9Dk2-mgwLHaddMVh7EEc130oVcLBCCgjTLQsNtkE7URzTMw037jtv-RFsrMuOQ5es_UfhzmFDWxpmcEZJ1ApOI63X3jutHDOFja9XTzpHHCkaWWgKWIFj6R9SJMaiNw00kdnoPwrJLmLreHlBkNuu4hSg74hiEejV98ADCo/w640-h486/Greenshank2-SharpenAI-Softness.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">With an Oystercatcher for company</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1j6DKbd4ncGc8IOoQBEarDJFY0S3GcDSIx2qWlmUE3ppU24vsIlTwIL99Qj6b9ArF1g7t1n27mYWI_VoOqKSsHEzazCi21-TSQXIgWyPOXRvfzktgShqmWSNprf13hyphenhyphen-dFuFwBvXA4SKQYbwaNQVThoVPq58f8Kx9C5uimTkGEwA0CyA6QjcHc6_tWhHK/s1908/Greenshank3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1146" data-original-width="1908" height="384" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1j6DKbd4ncGc8IOoQBEarDJFY0S3GcDSIx2qWlmUE3ppU24vsIlTwIL99Qj6b9ArF1g7t1n27mYWI_VoOqKSsHEzazCi21-TSQXIgWyPOXRvfzktgShqmWSNprf13hyphenhyphen-dFuFwBvXA4SKQYbwaNQVThoVPq58f8Kx9C5uimTkGEwA0CyA6QjcHc6_tWhHK/w640-h384/Greenshank3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This time with a Redshank (right). Out on the Marsh of the Dee Estuary I had a nice female Hen Harrier, Pink-footed Geese, Marsh Harrier, Little Egrets and several Great White Egrets. </p><p>One particular Great Egret flew right in front of me at just a few meters. Thankfully the light was still good, and gave me an opportunity to raise the camera and get a few shots.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> Great White Egret</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj24ImcMUk9s1YhMt4b7qsxVuRNQ3n5ln3-qS_cRv0viAbe9t3T-SvMinPuaePMzvKXyKlg0T1kShdPaJcVjkF8zKTJIRuspuMSGqdRKg782dDCE8hSfjygRCfMGQoPwEaPjZpYv6zWbrT4N_xmSlv3S03jugy6_pabcbbCuBD7XE36cmI6C_iAHSRKbg-h/s2211/Great%20White%20Egret-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1313" data-original-width="2211" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj24ImcMUk9s1YhMt4b7qsxVuRNQ3n5ln3-qS_cRv0viAbe9t3T-SvMinPuaePMzvKXyKlg0T1kShdPaJcVjkF8zKTJIRuspuMSGqdRKg782dDCE8hSfjygRCfMGQoPwEaPjZpYv6zWbrT4N_xmSlv3S03jugy6_pabcbbCuBD7XE36cmI6C_iAHSRKbg-h/w640-h380/Great%20White%20Egret-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtjly0A1_nfDeHRRhyvTwzv1HW229w15MWGWVZDjXU9G3FetaRbpPGjCeYw7MTOTvfyL9sRqXz3GXK3EuaQtfxNjd66Bw0Ozy2axpHFMTAFeQBEA2ZCgphM4-tewpB-c4fE2oVzevb1feYGdbpm4gduutdRNNOQTi0ukpZwORnf9h51ZE1ALPF5JcgS_oX/s1745/Great%20White%20Egret1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="926" data-original-width="1745" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtjly0A1_nfDeHRRhyvTwzv1HW229w15MWGWVZDjXU9G3FetaRbpPGjCeYw7MTOTvfyL9sRqXz3GXK3EuaQtfxNjd66Bw0Ozy2axpHFMTAFeQBEA2ZCgphM4-tewpB-c4fE2oVzevb1feYGdbpm4gduutdRNNOQTi0ukpZwORnf9h51ZE1ALPF5JcgS_oX/w640-h340/Great%20White%20Egret1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>At West Kirby Marine Lake, there had been a Red-breasted Merganser, but I missed this, or it had flown off. I always plan my trips, and I like to do a nice circular route. I headed to Lunt Meadows for the second time in a month, as I just really like the place and it's not too busy. </p><p>The first bird of note, was a nice Marsh Harrier hunting over the reeds, my first of the year. It soon glided out of view and I continued my walk. I was drawn to a bright white bird on the water, and my binoculars confirmed my thoughts. A male Smew!!. I had a quick panic to set up the scope , but there it was. This was not what I expected to see, but what a real bonus of a bird. Only the second male I've seen, and this one just by pure luck and chance.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Male Smew</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1rJZUAHBMyxRKNOpU7rjjEK0Zjw6nV72jHrBc-oDpSaqg0fWE0OsX-Mjw-ZVHNixU5aQASME7yTRNumtjQ96UXgxZy0rUSTDb6jYleWiGmWG6DjKRgEhcDx6MBv9eNCgBjeO38o_8bkjs2ybaudKNSpbUf3O767Ajh_qfeiCY6gpOagB3Me5spv6fneLJ/s2961/Smew3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1609" data-original-width="2961" height="348" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1rJZUAHBMyxRKNOpU7rjjEK0Zjw6nV72jHrBc-oDpSaqg0fWE0OsX-Mjw-ZVHNixU5aQASME7yTRNumtjQ96UXgxZy0rUSTDb6jYleWiGmWG6DjKRgEhcDx6MBv9eNCgBjeO38o_8bkjs2ybaudKNSpbUf3O767Ajh_qfeiCY6gpOagB3Me5spv6fneLJ/w640-h348/Smew3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHH7A32JslYqymzcknpMgAnuGzvMfBDGSQiZBGmWi2YhFN7Z1zQ7njlMecAuJfKtmHIH_9tj5c9b95fai7a-mwN1O68I5IeTbhVhe8ZZzhIDvkd1Ta8KfBM3FAYizV3ZCOqAWpIlxRRNF2D9esmTHHinZr91LmKHtUN2kizZFEmHIuMV4S5OB6mjYP0UaC/s1959/Smew-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1113" data-original-width="1959" height="364" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHH7A32JslYqymzcknpMgAnuGzvMfBDGSQiZBGmWi2YhFN7Z1zQ7njlMecAuJfKtmHIH_9tj5c9b95fai7a-mwN1O68I5IeTbhVhe8ZZzhIDvkd1Ta8KfBM3FAYizV3ZCOqAWpIlxRRNF2D9esmTHHinZr91LmKHtUN2kizZFEmHIuMV4S5OB6mjYP0UaC/w640-h364/Smew-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>It later went missing, but flew straight over my head when the group of Teal it was with took flight from a Peregrine.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6VruKrguFrwnZtYsghMqPqBzhsRF8EQk07DjiPfQ_6tKPaDcFIToKQj7d1igxLhVYFKy0E4m8W5k_jnCXiD3rFsle3guLRW5XFudlQ3YRC15j3lecPX5bCWDUbbn8O9KMTU0Fv5UCf47pPi360z2np_IH0ftURKMw5RE8lf8K35mThnBCe-ktSAbNBt-j/s2786/Smew1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1816" data-original-width="2786" height="418" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6VruKrguFrwnZtYsghMqPqBzhsRF8EQk07DjiPfQ_6tKPaDcFIToKQj7d1igxLhVYFKy0E4m8W5k_jnCXiD3rFsle3guLRW5XFudlQ3YRC15j3lecPX5bCWDUbbn8O9KMTU0Fv5UCf47pPi360z2np_IH0ftURKMw5RE8lf8K35mThnBCe-ktSAbNBt-j/w640-h418/Smew1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjAJTf9FxpmM-5FUnhLFPbIKtePqDyiWZtrMadceObYYiEWzPWLttpOlpvatUkizWHFC8G0tR7-1XVh_drUkkErheH_8gI1HAh9K5QsGW4OSDN9_UvYs85jQg6p3PVKMWCklqZoxCI-edUIams_vMOq0qII23x3DrdtlKMA3ovXsKbvp9LRdlHehSjss79/s3262/Smew2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2054" data-original-width="3262" height="402" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjAJTf9FxpmM-5FUnhLFPbIKtePqDyiWZtrMadceObYYiEWzPWLttpOlpvatUkizWHFC8G0tR7-1XVh_drUkkErheH_8gI1HAh9K5QsGW4OSDN9_UvYs85jQg6p3PVKMWCklqZoxCI-edUIams_vMOq0qII23x3DrdtlKMA3ovXsKbvp9LRdlHehSjss79/w640-h402/Smew2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>A bird that had been here for a while was a Richardson's Cackling Goose (origin unknown). I was fortunate enough to see a small flock in November in Wiveton, Norfolk, but then caught up with a really substantial flock of 100+ birds in January in Derbyshire. These birds were feeding on the berries along the Monsal trail. They put on a great show for the many birders and locals that walked past. It's been probably 10 years since I last saw so many here in the UK, and this has truly been a Waxwing Winter. I hope it's not another 10 years until the next one.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx0TkYDNbqRv6sz4U1YUHdXtgcLmR4IjTZE3FOmKOIQ0zCfFakxlrCcf8oBIlEC749j3K8LGUvzU79NUgT4v1nv5K9JtCMKS91MMeU2nIHw-rQ8zpJ3PzDf2KGloyrWIn7hc5TBoG6cAANFyES9Rni9SsWYCsncOfSkgbEaL4CImVGQFaXjBcvpCWaNwgR/s1882/Waxwing-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1390" data-original-width="1882" height="472" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx0TkYDNbqRv6sz4U1YUHdXtgcLmR4IjTZE3FOmKOIQ0zCfFakxlrCcf8oBIlEC749j3K8LGUvzU79NUgT4v1nv5K9JtCMKS91MMeU2nIHw-rQ8zpJ3PzDf2KGloyrWIn7hc5TBoG6cAANFyES9Rni9SsWYCsncOfSkgbEaL4CImVGQFaXjBcvpCWaNwgR/w640-h472/Waxwing-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQhyphenhyphen2gyW9PJjsFcoPLtnhIcYUmoDFVPr-kZofyQ0Db2v5_vPx7GVhFxvCPpdDsFmCZbRJtYGBS4mc4n56MjzEGM9hr0Z5ltEMUSbe8n1yKkDU9n2MpW4_T4paDC4vnCqxYa7zt6rUhmieHU7knN5xR4LWSJ8DoMd82w93iw4QP_w11jioThq8OAHao0MYN/s2472/Waxwing2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1717" data-original-width="2472" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQhyphenhyphen2gyW9PJjsFcoPLtnhIcYUmoDFVPr-kZofyQ0Db2v5_vPx7GVhFxvCPpdDsFmCZbRJtYGBS4mc4n56MjzEGM9hr0Z5ltEMUSbe8n1yKkDU9n2MpW4_T4paDC4vnCqxYa7zt6rUhmieHU7knN5xR4LWSJ8DoMd82w93iw4QP_w11jioThq8OAHao0MYN/w640-h444/Waxwing2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixeqssWYIgxLWeWnWgW2X0F_BLrG5XgY0VrmQyHuV3WYdc7pLxK1q31JzpqY8e-EdLUYatOjqgWq2-g0eARb296QmJ3epgk1sxOPxFPaA1U90KhseD17weqAshQem41aOhBas1ZoyUoJr5FWGIsKi_ZltjGDcfnZ1XfQ5Nn9Tlqlc9Vz5vCKBiRh0_CbvO/s1942/Waxwing3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1367" data-original-width="1942" height="450" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixeqssWYIgxLWeWnWgW2X0F_BLrG5XgY0VrmQyHuV3WYdc7pLxK1q31JzpqY8e-EdLUYatOjqgWq2-g0eARb296QmJ3epgk1sxOPxFPaA1U90KhseD17weqAshQem41aOhBas1ZoyUoJr5FWGIsKi_ZltjGDcfnZ1XfQ5Nn9Tlqlc9Vz5vCKBiRh0_CbvO/w640-h450/Waxwing3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU9liqAx67ofOo0uofI7Y2nQHq69e-4U9Yggw320fISfp5WwZhtqsVm81YOYlWO7l8io4FeVXsRw5zN-Z_VxikoDM5RDMUshKaeYyCiw5kKQEvOEmbeYMj8ffKCZm3Etu1FwYagzy4Ta9EWBC5FnZn7bLVLiWV3sDJdCqBOZDi5Bf9ovyz3mfX-iuuemVc/s3082/Waxwing4-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2092" data-original-width="3082" height="434" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU9liqAx67ofOo0uofI7Y2nQHq69e-4U9Yggw320fISfp5WwZhtqsVm81YOYlWO7l8io4FeVXsRw5zN-Z_VxikoDM5RDMUshKaeYyCiw5kKQEvOEmbeYMj8ffKCZm3Etu1FwYagzy4Ta9EWBC5FnZn7bLVLiWV3sDJdCqBOZDi5Bf9ovyz3mfX-iuuemVc/w640-h434/Waxwing4-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhry0ZZ1TZXGfZ8tj9bvwuMnI8Vr6Z-tLaWPSy-TLP1izdmwW6ztT2DvuscBNLGJ7zVxQnQzJuO9DW8eeFG4Nm3lQQSzcN5F35dKxyF1a-AbObyxNReqVhbbI1D3Fzlv-xUDtR4GDHlWxmALJt7OczeuGZXeA0lxmP5QuCf9HHhHB7MJe3g2ewYhZnvrDUc/s3805/Waxwing1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2984" data-original-width="3805" height="502" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhry0ZZ1TZXGfZ8tj9bvwuMnI8Vr6Z-tLaWPSy-TLP1izdmwW6ztT2DvuscBNLGJ7zVxQnQzJuO9DW8eeFG4Nm3lQQSzcN5F35dKxyF1a-AbObyxNReqVhbbI1D3Fzlv-xUDtR4GDHlWxmALJt7OczeuGZXeA0lxmP5QuCf9HHhHB7MJe3g2ewYhZnvrDUc/w640-h502/Waxwing1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. The forecast was for blue skies and sunshine, and for once it was correct. My first stop was up on the moors above Bakewell to see a Great Grey Shrike that had been wintering in the area. I got onto it without even getting out of the car, as it perched on a bush about 100 yards away. I was looking right into the sun, and it didn't move much, as I think it was just warming itself in the first sunlight of the day. I left it after about half an hour. A great start to the day.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Great Grey Shrike</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilfnBQHVj0f9M50lBAx6xU82JPKnwucdhw6U6nsFTqQtjTvqvIfPbzze-sPNTBGNUqij0Ta9AYb7zKp8ZcuQ4t77lbK0jLS5btYbM8dqKv7x5ggofPTKh3cN0c1do5HrtrYiH5ani7JBrVsZBfk3_I9rYk_s53H8D5OvZcfPpRO1DNeLW-G5n0ilWDLG7b/s2666/Great%20Grey%20Shrike-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1484" data-original-width="2666" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilfnBQHVj0f9M50lBAx6xU82JPKnwucdhw6U6nsFTqQtjTvqvIfPbzze-sPNTBGNUqij0Ta9AYb7zKp8ZcuQ4t77lbK0jLS5btYbM8dqKv7x5ggofPTKh3cN0c1do5HrtrYiH5ani7JBrVsZBfk3_I9rYk_s53H8D5OvZcfPpRO1DNeLW-G5n0ilWDLG7b/w640-h356/Great%20Grey%20Shrike-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div>I moved on to an area of woodland where I knew some Crossbills had been seen recently, and as luck would have it, there was a flock of about 10 right above my head in the trees where I parked my car. I've not been able to see these birds properly for a few years following a change to there habitat where I usually watch them, so it was great to catch up with them properly again.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Female Crossbill</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4CjIee9PLXq6u7v7n3PeRn9-1aqr65a3YYvqc1GSo2rzUaz5Lsl29hbMwKlND13x9Vw7VWrqyApYYnyc-FNtnlrL0RbnujKZy-hD82DXBP6n4hes0lHZp-O6bIATZ2FZ9f3d_fDg_42pZhULgsYB-qd7t0FgolQBbK1mADcXUk9YB-ouVTzLe-qDfHi2g/s1851/Crossbill1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1224" data-original-width="1851" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4CjIee9PLXq6u7v7n3PeRn9-1aqr65a3YYvqc1GSo2rzUaz5Lsl29hbMwKlND13x9Vw7VWrqyApYYnyc-FNtnlrL0RbnujKZy-hD82DXBP6n4hes0lHZp-O6bIATZ2FZ9f3d_fDg_42pZhULgsYB-qd7t0FgolQBbK1mADcXUk9YB-ouVTzLe-qDfHi2g/w640-h424/Crossbill1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4MTqSrvhgclRncP8YDlX70JG-uWPKg2ZLaJO0ig9_YHeABK0CFl22egkguBeI86A5Kdc68ALqqOIUuupAT5DAa3ahrxvX5G6UFT-KoDnsplQ7-VyAtWebRxNZNlOTGVXGqrZT9-XfCNsm_LKzQgHHwrDlKMkVHwA_osreKchn3tDS0OAKQvA_oxJacf33/s1952/Crossbill-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1272" data-original-width="1952" height="418" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4MTqSrvhgclRncP8YDlX70JG-uWPKg2ZLaJO0ig9_YHeABK0CFl22egkguBeI86A5Kdc68ALqqOIUuupAT5DAa3ahrxvX5G6UFT-KoDnsplQ7-VyAtWebRxNZNlOTGVXGqrZT9-XfCNsm_LKzQgHHwrDlKMkVHwA_osreKchn3tDS0OAKQvA_oxJacf33/w640-h418/Crossbill-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>I moved onto the canal at Cromford, hoping for a possible Hawfinch, but had no joy. I never have much luck with these shy birds. I have gone looking for them on many occasions and usually come up blank. I know where they can be found, but I somehow dodge them, or they don't like me. While out in the Lancashire countryside, I dropped in to a regular area for them, and this time a flock of around 30 birds dropped in over my head to an area of shore that had been seeded by some kind birder. I couldn't believe my luck this time. I'd not even started to look for them and there they were in front of me.</p><p>A super little bird with their small yellow bills. Most had colour rings on their legs from the local ringing groups. This helps to identify their movements when seen again and reported. I aim to let the relevant people know so that they can log the birds sighting.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgip0Ji7g4qOphnroYBK64et1ngAYYY4CGGw91P4XacXCVoVmIG4xEP5veqwHOxucRx5P9AgwLL64rLrVUaKnf5kym5jWtYeodyKA7iTFC1f2a0328xDdI7EhSv9-_06lFta9QwTX-8I-rzArDQw2VrGGYtMx-auopIWysa4nJVJFgZbXxBykZab4EQ9ggI/s2073/Twite1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; This gave a nice size comparison, as The Bewick's are quite a bit smaller and also have a different pattern on their bills. They enjoy the fields and estuaries here in the North West, but are becoming more and more scarce, especially the Bewick's.</p><p>The majority of this group feeding were the larger Whooper Swans, with their longer necks, and only 3 Bewick's. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Bewick's front left and Whoopers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; These are a bird I usually see at some distance out at sea and usually with the aid of a telescope. On this occasion, the inland marine lake meant the bird came considerably closer while it was doing it's laps. A bit of patience required, but it came very close a number of times, and what's more, the sun was in the right place too. A cracking looking bird, and one I was delighted both see, and get on my year list so early in January.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEXZ_7Avr5raAwuhAx-160tXKWLJVDv2PpRUVqwOl7vlaFDrHCqqLX-sGJ0B5HyGJeHLNLFK35itp5z-nIowsvjj5J12FxJRStuLwyecgpZEPQWxCVnLU_yZ1eeBPNyO_x_gyn31MBUiqYKYT8EGVKYt0VOUVdUF5gH0CWGigpfQutg6rAMcsvgiVUQ0DG/s3632/Black%20throated%20Diver1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; I like to start the new year with a good effort on the first day, and see how many I can get on my list. It was an early start and still dark as I headed towards Merseyside. The forecast was good, with some actual sunshine and no rain for once. Lisa and I arrived at Lunt Meadows hoping to see the Green-winged Teal that had been resident for some weeks. That would be a really good one to get on the 2024 list. Before that though, we were so lucky to watch a Barn Owl float across the fields in the early sunshine. What a great start!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkgiHUBGRHnewTcvFiAE825d5qJxqWW5yVbXI1pNOwZnJYAbYPaA2Y3VBFsw7pT0e_aNdxFedIWNiUkqGv8zcBS2gAmPiRz9Q2T_JYL9-I4-5UezXcVN9VG83rYwEbJOWlQoZq8pXHU8pbWBhPMbdd-EqhibH74fnKsEhLIzg180LcJxH8nQzLJ6evjW9S/s2489/Barn%20Owl-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1539" data-original-width="2489" height="396" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkgiHUBGRHnewTcvFiAE825d5qJxqWW5yVbXI1pNOwZnJYAbYPaA2Y3VBFsw7pT0e_aNdxFedIWNiUkqGv8zcBS2gAmPiRz9Q2T_JYL9-I4-5UezXcVN9VG83rYwEbJOWlQoZq8pXHU8pbWBhPMbdd-EqhibH74fnKsEhLIzg180LcJxH8nQzLJ6evjW9S/w640-h396/Barn%20Owl-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Just one loan Goldeneye dropped in, but it landed nice and close for good views.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicYazMFOIfyyEX8ha-hkeXi0hrcuQ3GTnLooPWegWdkbhMLoHndL85qIoA3YyybFNl80qIqzC-GUBnoiDMYiDYa9FjQ_G0TONPWTojwFadiFlYN2cKFpM4eqcJPRFtxSSB7iJbmONFMb24f7r5enCnthPeJOVxNVd7yCyLbWImEVZilH4uEjb0l449t__j/s2069/Goldeneye-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1294" data-original-width="2069" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicYazMFOIfyyEX8ha-hkeXi0hrcuQ3GTnLooPWegWdkbhMLoHndL85qIoA3YyybFNl80qIqzC-GUBnoiDMYiDYa9FjQ_G0TONPWTojwFadiFlYN2cKFpM4eqcJPRFtxSSB7iJbmONFMb24f7r5enCnthPeJOVxNVd7yCyLbWImEVZilH4uEjb0l449t__j/w640-h400/Goldeneye-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>The Green-winge Teal (on the left) spent most of it's time roosting on the bank, but gave good views of the tell tale white vertical stripe beneath it's shoulder.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh52iXKVMxleusRSTjv6pr7EucSMMtK2LEWJFgKW_i67gay7D_QOSn0KJn6svYBBaivreRd4Mda8m3i62oTNYN8fXLg0sbRDAoVZDqCqIm7sn7wobrwkDe_Xk-oDKwHW-aZJKa6pT8NXWeuu94FRV7EnUK3ZzTIi2sRqXJU8YAfWKSp6qkwkGeYsRWwE-Lu/s1376/Green-winged%20Teal1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="835" data-original-width="1376" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh52iXKVMxleusRSTjv6pr7EucSMMtK2LEWJFgKW_i67gay7D_QOSn0KJn6svYBBaivreRd4Mda8m3i62oTNYN8fXLg0sbRDAoVZDqCqIm7sn7wobrwkDe_Xk-oDKwHW-aZJKa6pT8NXWeuu94FRV7EnUK3ZzTIi2sRqXJU8YAfWKSp6qkwkGeYsRWwE-Lu/w640-h388/Green-winged%20Teal1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">On the water this time (top centre) with other Teal.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibWLPSJwrVxoeGDCM49qSPyNaQqNIIu8_fPdy4-yT2ERKWKsmZKAz7dnT_qFux7ZwgIAfgaJubh_vww3B_4h1m8xQ0GERABms66UF11CMcaajV8ZZWhGxsMz7NvoQoWPbVVfClR9jpUia4Y3N4AwByFfp90EdM_UEoYsCuf5tpj8LiqB54c8OcyYq_g579/s2124/Green-winged%20Teal-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1062" data-original-width="2124" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibWLPSJwrVxoeGDCM49qSPyNaQqNIIu8_fPdy4-yT2ERKWKsmZKAz7dnT_qFux7ZwgIAfgaJubh_vww3B_4h1m8xQ0GERABms66UF11CMcaajV8ZZWhGxsMz7NvoQoWPbVVfClR9jpUia4Y3N4AwByFfp90EdM_UEoYsCuf5tpj8LiqB54c8OcyYq_g579/w640-h320/Green-winged%20Teal-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>We moved on to Crosby Marine lake where there quite a number of bonus birds which were not on my radar for the day. I do like watching these birds as they move along the waters edge often with their heads under the surface. The males have a lovely green head, while the females have a reddish head. They're one of the highlights of the Autumn/Winter months on the local rivers and lakes.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Female Goosander</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsAzSBvi3Cm3WSMix9UqWuRLfauR2758cDsR4OIxycxLlcNByyupwFlpOY7E20zdYmM1X1Ij96GEb_23_Ixt7CAu2RXjv4W1QTohgRTVFGfvbWfAM72-BFuMzu9B0s9QHaDzYEoeCWmfLEg3QMwjPvzGqhWYaWbO4do8heRFk0JRv17zp1gPkeE7oYjpUK/s2330/Goosander1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1505" data-original-width="2330" height="414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsAzSBvi3Cm3WSMix9UqWuRLfauR2758cDsR4OIxycxLlcNByyupwFlpOY7E20zdYmM1X1Ij96GEb_23_Ixt7CAu2RXjv4W1QTohgRTVFGfvbWfAM72-BFuMzu9B0s9QHaDzYEoeCWmfLEg3QMwjPvzGqhWYaWbO4do8heRFk0JRv17zp1gPkeE7oYjpUK/w640-h414/Goosander1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Male on the right</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKzOeRZs4-hzueZaDcGYqy8mHmMIaUv1ej0J2O1sodAWeCADQ4ctCJuq3AxgokD0XuuKnWGN7mPuDgTeqfk_EEtMua_RV7aU-DbUyDoD3XKbHyj3T4Bum1VMlouyQKVJdnZBO6cyAj_pVm4vHECsO51EwUqtzRvrzdkn5RP-vMaiV2ZwB2kqwr4lzsHnt9/s2523/Goosander2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1321" data-original-width="2523" height="336" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKzOeRZs4-hzueZaDcGYqy8mHmMIaUv1ej0J2O1sodAWeCADQ4ctCJuq3AxgokD0XuuKnWGN7mPuDgTeqfk_EEtMua_RV7aU-DbUyDoD3XKbHyj3T4Bum1VMlouyQKVJdnZBO6cyAj_pVm4vHECsO51EwUqtzRvrzdkn5RP-vMaiV2ZwB2kqwr4lzsHnt9/w640-h336/Goosander2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A nice comparison of the male and female together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigXVMCag5okWrQq0htzodgQ1BciBM6T-weaRG0oc1ofWPxgkTTf-9qWhO91cSKP5JmtJ6HWxa7JpQwvqIWNq4NTEU14Q2kielZHzUN4X9Dupl2ps8ISf9cUSPUV4-vmYVbUhvnO3Pw9J2hnetznSSaw7X0LZQATMvZV9EZRu-50IJGMat0AEobJtY6F8FK/s1799/Goosander3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1083" data-original-width="1799" height="386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigXVMCag5okWrQq0htzodgQ1BciBM6T-weaRG0oc1ofWPxgkTTf-9qWhO91cSKP5JmtJ6HWxa7JpQwvqIWNq4NTEU14Q2kielZHzUN4X9Dupl2ps8ISf9cUSPUV4-vmYVbUhvnO3Pw9J2hnetznSSaw7X0LZQATMvZV9EZRu-50IJGMat0AEobJtY6F8FK/w640-h386/Goosander3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A smart looking male.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ-OLGomaAg6qvl9JdyxM_KDuGl8pys-BWMqxlZVaXE-8tgN9GDdN5DlP_Z6hfV922xWJVneWz0fpvNisFFR1hJFUhadcGLoNoqMilJ7yB8WVMXNmpIEimKBDWYurG-Njreq5_NYIQ9pgZgH2IzUAKVqbyN-GP0-664Cxdt0IH7hOBKjjtffjWUmAue_3k/s2629/Gooseander-SharpenAI-Softness.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1439" data-original-width="2629" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ-OLGomaAg6qvl9JdyxM_KDuGl8pys-BWMqxlZVaXE-8tgN9GDdN5DlP_Z6hfV922xWJVneWz0fpvNisFFR1hJFUhadcGLoNoqMilJ7yB8WVMXNmpIEimKBDWYurG-Njreq5_NYIQ9pgZgH2IzUAKVqbyN-GP0-664Cxdt0IH7hOBKjjtffjWUmAue_3k/w640-h350/Gooseander-SharpenAI-Softness.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>In a wooded area, I hid myself away hoping to get some good views of the Jays and Nuthatches, but I was joined by this very good looking Great Spotted Woodpecker. We were then blessed with some really good sunshine. A cold sunny day always has me excited to get outside and see what's about. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It was a hat, snood, and gloves type of day, but that also means that the birds and wildlife are all actively seeking out food, which can make it easier to see some of the more shy species. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It was a lovely morning, which seems to have been followed by a week of rain, with more to come this weekend. In previous years I've struggled to find pairs, but I had no such issues this year. There were good numbers around the various sites and this bodes well for some good numbers fledging. It could have been the good warm dry weather that we had for around six weeks at just the right time in Spring. Fingers crossed that the first brood managed to get good amounts of food and left the nest healthy.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0CbyFNvOBTzVjsQbZzdree9-OLpeAsvGDSmh0EQjkwxT3y6drYNze_GusN39O34vifjnMgi9vppPfH_RrE8FLx8IyVIMPIhmn3_OWBRqYNQ_yUgQ3PqAimyaBnfEjsOLjcj-7jdH25tX0z5d32_AM5Ma5oXURIRkBc7jFXZTad01f1bbC1oXvIA9IVFpr/s3432/Pied%20Flycatcher1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2428" data-original-width="3432" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0CbyFNvOBTzVjsQbZzdree9-OLpeAsvGDSmh0EQjkwxT3y6drYNze_GusN39O34vifjnMgi9vppPfH_RrE8FLx8IyVIMPIhmn3_OWBRqYNQ_yUgQ3PqAimyaBnfEjsOLjcj-7jdH25tX0z5d32_AM5Ma5oXURIRkBc7jFXZTad01f1bbC1oXvIA9IVFpr/w640-h452/Pied%20Flycatcher1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ZZ8IHXXBISHP-0xFiYvKq7Al4NpHJYEInUXFB-rwZFoTc4TTJq289elvVm-0hOG_DoItijZaBZMJh9X_y5N9WkbfBw6rKaogNHzKDus8bXZfSp9R-OcBQ4TAnT781STiwlkB_Cu2meOlvw8JYBS8QcMr5sPX_q5fXMqthmhOaGd7qtv8IEY_1eXkAN57/s3024/Pied%20Flycatcher-SharpenAI-Motion.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2237" data-original-width="3024" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ZZ8IHXXBISHP-0xFiYvKq7Al4NpHJYEInUXFB-rwZFoTc4TTJq289elvVm-0hOG_DoItijZaBZMJh9X_y5N9WkbfBw6rKaogNHzKDus8bXZfSp9R-OcBQ4TAnT781STiwlkB_Cu2meOlvw8JYBS8QcMr5sPX_q5fXMqthmhOaGd7qtv8IEY_1eXkAN57/w640-h474/Pied%20Flycatcher-SharpenAI-Motion.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjORcI-zywXBm30mkQ-t3lwucM1NdHicx8qnok5OBvW9T3HBs6GCyyn_Ys1Z5aLvi-i3W0QYDU5Xfoyd8m4Goqyg_cPs2bMjwKw_cvkXhqlsHqtG7ZSil_hUw_PMHCOLUmRjWf8tykVDU7j9qtBB2eVRfm8mz53o69mAdWunQbreR6pmlYCPMcYntAiXDei/s2460/Pied%20Flycatcher5.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1705" data-original-width="2460" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjORcI-zywXBm30mkQ-t3lwucM1NdHicx8qnok5OBvW9T3HBs6GCyyn_Ys1Z5aLvi-i3W0QYDU5Xfoyd8m4Goqyg_cPs2bMjwKw_cvkXhqlsHqtG7ZSil_hUw_PMHCOLUmRjWf8tykVDU7j9qtBB2eVRfm8mz53o69mAdWunQbreR6pmlYCPMcYntAiXDei/w640-h444/Pied%20Flycatcher5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. It was pretty blustery to say the least while we were there and it did push the sea birds closer to the shore. The hides in the good morning light gave the opportunity to watch and photograph some of the raptors that were causing havoc amongst the waders and waterfowl.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A Marsh Harrier hunting over the reeds.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGDC5Iu-CkrZZnAH4zfsqwC_CzgRJhTwZ3UXCtGITAoxDSt3nwzP41l5OFcc4Xd3W8TIJvzjstYDzSTs2v8wFSwYTfNHJMYdNRWzEV8cYIvDBdS3f1YfWsS9FgFHq6NKD5sSR_ouJBzVg77tLGTEI5BWk5NngYBNzWhixRodn1ikTFiirU5_Hwbcsmaxb3/s2485/Marsh%20Harrier-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1802" data-original-width="2485" height="464" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGDC5Iu-CkrZZnAH4zfsqwC_CzgRJhTwZ3UXCtGITAoxDSt3nwzP41l5OFcc4Xd3W8TIJvzjstYDzSTs2v8wFSwYTfNHJMYdNRWzEV8cYIvDBdS3f1YfWsS9FgFHq6NKD5sSR_ouJBzVg77tLGTEI5BWk5NngYBNzWhixRodn1ikTFiirU5_Hwbcsmaxb3/w640-h464/Marsh%20Harrier-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A Peregrine Falcon tormented the waders but was unsuccessful with each attempt.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8XiNC_CDn4n702fjbJC7f5SRhGj4IwR3yVigDdvKdg3Kng16hGNqZw1NU1cEIigWGdeK9riQIEolcd8aQ5gsvvHfN6bRqQbZp_Vob2OpSNog29-Rs7iT86GEYEM03MQ5AXwc-xL-rwEi0XRwVJ7n6AZPOq8uJJhzbldD5ij2NARhVRda7ngTjaY7iBBfF/s2298/Peregrine-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1316" data-original-width="2298" height="366" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8XiNC_CDn4n702fjbJC7f5SRhGj4IwR3yVigDdvKdg3Kng16hGNqZw1NU1cEIigWGdeK9riQIEolcd8aQ5gsvvHfN6bRqQbZp_Vob2OpSNog29-Rs7iT86GEYEM03MQ5AXwc-xL-rwEi0XRwVJ7n6AZPOq8uJJhzbldD5ij2NARhVRda7ngTjaY7iBBfF/w640-h366/Peregrine-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Razorbills were in abundance along the coast, sprinkled with the odd Guillemot.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6yqEPOQY4x-bMYgVCDWCje-UQbrylNtSjDj8VF1AKrXXMR2jR-PjYcZNzejCP65lTs-M7uWEp1rbZJRclIZ3IRj68pIyc4ryyavWl-UGgYvuFpfqHw3mxdbWHKrxPaLdO3HxH5XXSuZKBStbOj8iAs10jJmB5EW59myJOh_5I1BDuD3Oyu4AV1Neu3Nvc/s2417/Razzorbill1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1246" data-original-width="2417" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6yqEPOQY4x-bMYgVCDWCje-UQbrylNtSjDj8VF1AKrXXMR2jR-PjYcZNzejCP65lTs-M7uWEp1rbZJRclIZ3IRj68pIyc4ryyavWl-UGgYvuFpfqHw3mxdbWHKrxPaLdO3HxH5XXSuZKBStbOj8iAs10jJmB5EW59myJOh_5I1BDuD3Oyu4AV1Neu3Nvc/w640-h330/Razzorbill1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh16tceFh1H403hw9qMrpRCTPqA9pJbTKlPIHwlyLT8xiy76ag_DPRTjLoh2-5aPdVuj4mVkaqQaZFZ_6M9PC1bFioBayR6WQ6EbddCNeuFpmI6LOk5RXTJ7M_W_s8f-h6Nt1fi26M13pgQYIhWHZhfFIgqmpTQTRlI1M87Kyuo5lh675EwHqKd70koGphg/s1483/Razzorbill-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="829" data-original-width="1483" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh16tceFh1H403hw9qMrpRCTPqA9pJbTKlPIHwlyLT8xiy76ag_DPRTjLoh2-5aPdVuj4mVkaqQaZFZ_6M9PC1bFioBayR6WQ6EbddCNeuFpmI6LOk5RXTJ7M_W_s8f-h6Nt1fi26M13pgQYIhWHZhfFIgqmpTQTRlI1M87Kyuo5lh675EwHqKd70koGphg/w640-h358/Razzorbill-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A rare sight for me, a Common Shrew. I've seen quite a few of these birds, but only once before at an inland location. This particular bird was at a water park and seemed to be enjoying watch the canoeists as the played some form of polo just feet away. At least it was kindly stood on a pontoon just feet from the path. This made for some good close shots. It was probably blown off course during one of the recent storms.</p><p style="text-align: center;">European Shag</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZYLbcOWjkHTUcxnzw95WcgYWpXOXELDCl1hUuOh1CpbuPx-O2_SOXn5qs186JxkOetN53gdslfv4aGUPxnMbvHQRn7ep4uPz-EM1ZgQuKS_q_zvNE2SE2kmtYrlQLSTIytqWh_6W4XV4vINx0PhnuEKxPps2qttHuWwvTT1Rt4ytQwFuGNh2vjgS2rOb_/s1814/Shag1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1545" data-original-width="1814" height="546" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZYLbcOWjkHTUcxnzw95WcgYWpXOXELDCl1hUuOh1CpbuPx-O2_SOXn5qs186JxkOetN53gdslfv4aGUPxnMbvHQRn7ep4uPz-EM1ZgQuKS_q_zvNE2SE2kmtYrlQLSTIytqWh_6W4XV4vINx0PhnuEKxPps2qttHuWwvTT1Rt4ytQwFuGNh2vjgS2rOb_/w640-h546/Shag1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0SzAedDCPwS-iqcr_TVqKFiZ3fkuzz6AoeyN6EfLe5t30TJwctFYmKX-Z-YgxLi392LSJh9ZluW8xLEWG0yK3bY2-XQWzNbthhWC82tGf3WQO_mP8hEnbogm-p4CezLM56YLgCObOy-XiTc1k5B07xcdKmzRvOvzQRjQZF39k1KyyQzF_lG783HmEgMbo/s1804/Shag2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1550" data-original-width="1804" height="550" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0SzAedDCPwS-iqcr_TVqKFiZ3fkuzz6AoeyN6EfLe5t30TJwctFYmKX-Z-YgxLi392LSJh9ZluW8xLEWG0yK3bY2-XQWzNbthhWC82tGf3WQO_mP8hEnbogm-p4CezLM56YLgCObOy-XiTc1k5B07xcdKmzRvOvzQRjQZF39k1KyyQzF_lG783HmEgMbo/w640-h550/Shag2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilAS95BgnJJx0177n_B77xsMiRnANAu_fIsSnCjkTfS7WPAz6NxXe3cUg0091vbC3x0OcPlvgypFtWdEVtxgKs-xoc0mexgPo02YyWImYNUawhhEaFgjchRa8l1lD8UvkRuE_NW4GD5FqFfxc7xJcKYE8lSDQNxKPoI2v2BoGo3JJel5X4KnGDyaS6tFEB/s1844/Shag3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1449" data-original-width="1844" height="502" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilAS95BgnJJx0177n_B77xsMiRnANAu_fIsSnCjkTfS7WPAz6NxXe3cUg0091vbC3x0OcPlvgypFtWdEVtxgKs-xoc0mexgPo02YyWImYNUawhhEaFgjchRa8l1lD8UvkRuE_NW4GD5FqFfxc7xJcKYE8lSDQNxKPoI2v2BoGo3JJel5X4KnGDyaS6tFEB/w640-h502/Shag3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjorBZm8yZiePzyknOB6pYriMPTfHzFt8Qtex_N0urFA6jXMqrhQ5nnw5kRdUJ1FMNHkgATGbtOwJvdFJvbGf6N0M9bPcgCVxkMJUm8sIdcuu3ekCntE2zTJnYm4nLuC6hmKRxdylITeUFMume3rJxK3TwlyFUt37KEiaLO9-V2jwhgE2iwCTtZEOnt1xAf/s2048/Shag-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1617" data-original-width="2048" height="506" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjorBZm8yZiePzyknOB6pYriMPTfHzFt8Qtex_N0urFA6jXMqrhQ5nnw5kRdUJ1FMNHkgATGbtOwJvdFJvbGf6N0M9bPcgCVxkMJUm8sIdcuu3ekCntE2zTJnYm4nLuC6hmKRxdylITeUFMume3rJxK3TwlyFUt37KEiaLO9-V2jwhgE2iwCTtZEOnt1xAf/w640-h506/Shag-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. There were lots of Gannets passing at some distance, but some of the younger birds were trying their luck much closer in. These birds are large, but the plumage is really interesting as a juvenile. They look so dark compared to the adults, and it will take a few years before their plumage turns to that of the white adult birds.</p><p style="text-align: center;">A juvenile Gannet putting on a nice show for me from the shingle beach.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmLRRqtsoKpMJf4q-_HjuA8Uh180nXCzXNEuGrxCo9zr_hL5BK7IjuYyHLU7ydAMCuyzBPnwD4C_IOw7hb930LavwVojr3mELhGyDPMzNVtSXIB3HY331Te5KGfeJ5bwFkLsblxZAE66zRmJ6zx1iiGH4u0QBPOfE4jfwv7eRCjtO-hn6edmN5oKKA8Vkf/s3699/Gannet1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2455" data-original-width="3699" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmLRRqtsoKpMJf4q-_HjuA8Uh180nXCzXNEuGrxCo9zr_hL5BK7IjuYyHLU7ydAMCuyzBPnwD4C_IOw7hb930LavwVojr3mELhGyDPMzNVtSXIB3HY331Te5KGfeJ5bwFkLsblxZAE66zRmJ6zx1iiGH4u0QBPOfE4jfwv7eRCjtO-hn6edmN5oKKA8Vkf/w640-h424/Gannet1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXf5iAc8ngTAjo0ypGZMdYT-wunzSq04KBEHeFLc0i-NCZd5RPV8YZWPid-sniaVI4TYj-Ko2SKVKsHegCXKvcdljl7b6-56DnLdY6Hsw6NrdFGhuYGatCa3UlgGUlSStvrZeyVOobtMKdP0ubsBWO5Pd_ml9TtZIEkBkRj3eJ8pMuVeiKUFh_u4kwtgWO/s3264/Gannet2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2282" data-original-width="3264" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXf5iAc8ngTAjo0ypGZMdYT-wunzSq04KBEHeFLc0i-NCZd5RPV8YZWPid-sniaVI4TYj-Ko2SKVKsHegCXKvcdljl7b6-56DnLdY6Hsw6NrdFGhuYGatCa3UlgGUlSStvrZeyVOobtMKdP0ubsBWO5Pd_ml9TtZIEkBkRj3eJ8pMuVeiKUFh_u4kwtgWO/w640-h448/Gannet2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This is my favourite view of the bird. So when reports of one, and then two, turning up in a cattle field just 15 minutes down the road came through on the local Whatsapp group I had to make the after work dash.</p><p>Both were still in the field busy following the herd and picking off flies and insects as they moved. One appeared to have an injury, as it was hopping and flapping each time it moved. Hopefully it is ok and manages to heal itself. Great little birds to watch, and one that completed the set of Great White Egret, Little Egret and Cattle Egret for the year. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE4tuHQiHGihMFyV4tYJDBEl7OYMUJAkJXAr7z0rp3sGfFNLQiHEHWzUmEPMpHotj2A_WQosMUllR_SdpHs6VqJYZENnYbEJzyePwExOSmCzZq-GnJyKOXXvXhtK5hrkpdRRSp0REVrA0vR0jil2_kY35kYD2N3cEaDJlnu06SHlToTsOziSsVXEh-iGrz/s2127/Cattle%20Egret1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1462" data-original-width="2127" height="440" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE4tuHQiHGihMFyV4tYJDBEl7OYMUJAkJXAr7z0rp3sGfFNLQiHEHWzUmEPMpHotj2A_WQosMUllR_SdpHs6VqJYZENnYbEJzyePwExOSmCzZq-GnJyKOXXvXhtK5hrkpdRRSp0REVrA0vR0jil2_kY35kYD2N3cEaDJlnu06SHlToTsOziSsVXEh-iGrz/w640-h440/Cattle%20Egret1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvUhaUGssANm4YIBz_eiwpCuRFNWC27TOsUHuXnfCkho-I3m33xdKCSLFKgTeRO0kyDndPoyiFzWRoiSMj5RSfWAJMeVY5AfsEHmO-lMIYND06MfeNZIi9TOOHGYBbTTv2ihDoJuwJ0VGyvwxuqxytKgHc-kyvwKekMRhkQzSNh5_SDK4ssG5Q7yWtl6E5/s2142/Cattle%20Egret2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1405" data-original-width="2142" height="420" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvUhaUGssANm4YIBz_eiwpCuRFNWC27TOsUHuXnfCkho-I3m33xdKCSLFKgTeRO0kyDndPoyiFzWRoiSMj5RSfWAJMeVY5AfsEHmO-lMIYND06MfeNZIi9TOOHGYBbTTv2ihDoJuwJ0VGyvwxuqxytKgHc-kyvwKekMRhkQzSNh5_SDK4ssG5Q7yWtl6E5/w640-h420/Cattle%20Egret2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggDGFl7NuYOQiVv1dQbMKggpqg7YGuu_MEkqmqwp3VAvg8y6NEThrP-illFdBX452kWpoOBEHoO2NvkI5eUs4LWUQNqzfIE6G1IO0-m4-sm6AYnJCpwgDOxzhX94OzoaRQP6OqG6mYjKULLIThP8D2C9s0VyKMiMPrR7OCaADoB0mhQZIgoe2YujJCxaR7/s2584/Cattle%20Egret3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1534" data-original-width="2584" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggDGFl7NuYOQiVv1dQbMKggpqg7YGuu_MEkqmqwp3VAvg8y6NEThrP-illFdBX452kWpoOBEHoO2NvkI5eUs4LWUQNqzfIE6G1IO0-m4-sm6AYnJCpwgDOxzhX94OzoaRQP6OqG6mYjKULLIThP8D2C9s0VyKMiMPrR7OCaADoB0mhQZIgoe2YujJCxaR7/w640-h380/Cattle%20Egret3-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdDPCfMstomV5NULBtwr4T8YKvlLjQF2NCruQlT35phIxQeQpsatRQbchwVY_oa8BMdjoo3fQVfhhsjGoUiftoWPuMcKW6YEDMDJ7sCDjpZebfoZZmJp6diDEmc8OLmhxbS4WtH4l-GI1H1RtQETROwBhP38KTv3AMRmgnw4DGupEXgFAlQxVcRcuycrAt/s1837/Cattle%20Egret-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1223" data-original-width="1837" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdDPCfMstomV5NULBtwr4T8YKvlLjQF2NCruQlT35phIxQeQpsatRQbchwVY_oa8BMdjoo3fQVfhhsjGoUiftoWPuMcKW6YEDMDJ7sCDjpZebfoZZmJp6diDEmc8OLmhxbS4WtH4l-GI1H1RtQETROwBhP38KTv3AMRmgnw4DGupEXgFAlQxVcRcuycrAt/w640-h426/Cattle%20Egret-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. I ended up at Hoylake where an hour before high tide the sea looked a good mile or more away. It moves quite quickly here and it was fun watching the birds shuffle closer together before taking flight to find a dry bit of sand. The usual suspects were in attendance, with Oystercatchers, Curlew, Dunlin, Sanderling, Ringed Plover, Grey Plover and Knot all mingling together. At one point a Peregrine flew through which caused pandemonium. It left empty handed though.</p><p>A couple of Bar-tailed Godwits were a welcome addition to the day list, and as I don't go to the coast as often as I should they're a bird that I don't get to see all that often. With them were hundreds of Knot. Again a bird I'd not seen for a year or two, mainly due to me not visiting the areas they like to hang out. All in all though it was a very good few hours and reminded me I need to do this more often.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Bar-tailed Godwir on the left with a supporting cast of Knot.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoJF0rB4dP-hMmS2A1dG7hvCdOHkdpX7eIlvrTq7OLezu-g3xbj-JxuPrP1dYbLyLXSgwh7gGIBn_eCajaqErLfLVvO8LomvzXDcprV-_ZB5OduULump8eMecYG7WW3_GAl5aqUx2jCEKYQ_yKE5cOshA08dun-HmTnQDVrmVMFQamDWjeABEBUgr3w8ky/s1759/Bar-tailed%20Godwit1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1101" data-original-width="1759" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoJF0rB4dP-hMmS2A1dG7hvCdOHkdpX7eIlvrTq7OLezu-g3xbj-JxuPrP1dYbLyLXSgwh7gGIBn_eCajaqErLfLVvO8LomvzXDcprV-_ZB5OduULump8eMecYG7WW3_GAl5aqUx2jCEKYQ_yKE5cOshA08dun-HmTnQDVrmVMFQamDWjeABEBUgr3w8ky/w640-h400/Bar-tailed%20Godwit1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Knot in flight</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyAAyxiAt_UcDdBQBZIS9Zf3iDMvqHyGHPvTBUTYQB-cZJNpp9uYlqCx8oNfaYUYUXtS5Y6zAndaoSzdLtuul28JmsVclhWwimiu4cj3tHwzWalOFthNMy1aCAqR2124Ys7p8cWaZPvMuNZOHYCbU-xMA2sur3NRB9RgE3Q4tkofhkUxXPOwD6d70sn7z/s2565/Knot1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1593" data-original-width="2565" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyAAyxiAt_UcDdBQBZIS9Zf3iDMvqHyGHPvTBUTYQB-cZJNpp9uYlqCx8oNfaYUYUXtS5Y6zAndaoSzdLtuul28JmsVclhWwimiu4cj3tHwzWalOFthNMy1aCAqR2124Ys7p8cWaZPvMuNZOHYCbU-xMA2sur3NRB9RgE3Q4tkofhkUxXPOwD6d70sn7z/w640-h398/Knot1-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Single Knot</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOxgVJ9dThld3_M2DrVJTby0DA2rqIigI7LZFwMxD0sFzxYA_FlzZ09OSTXzBl5USoZVMd6PiAGJlLaOU-eOEeKIRTIp-2YYOySjC8nxgGzfe0SE4Rwmc8AMnUjlgcC1jxPcAPNIclEN9nQiXXe06JDjcLRywh7A3eYTfka3pn9nr0QZbQ0s_27qdefVJS/s3029/Knot3%20-%20Copy-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1641" data-original-width="3029" height="346" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOxgVJ9dThld3_M2DrVJTby0DA2rqIigI7LZFwMxD0sFzxYA_FlzZ09OSTXzBl5USoZVMd6PiAGJlLaOU-eOEeKIRTIp-2YYOySjC8nxgGzfe0SE4Rwmc8AMnUjlgcC1jxPcAPNIclEN9nQiXXe06JDjcLRywh7A3eYTfka3pn9nr0QZbQ0s_27qdefVJS/w640-h346/Knot3%20-%20Copy-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">And more Knot</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheW12l3M4AhcsNWwGeBV6aU3CF9XdfjjVVuk3T6jE1qCBwt28iS-adlspRYzjB5wrkJ5csDh0eVbpz-6HpA9GP2fomZLoEpD00DbAUF57CxCbW7OM2YRX4E2YGuWs2HLhq0Xu-SQ_UINKEc5Dp1A71xOA2Y_BJcmiRCEaqAFrk4rsh19-ek5jVUw1KsxJe/s4344/Knot-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2548" data-original-width="4344" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheW12l3M4AhcsNWwGeBV6aU3CF9XdfjjVVuk3T6jE1qCBwt28iS-adlspRYzjB5wrkJ5csDh0eVbpz-6HpA9GP2fomZLoEpD00DbAUF57CxCbW7OM2YRX4E2YGuWs2HLhq0Xu-SQ_UINKEc5Dp1A71xOA2Y_BJcmiRCEaqAFrk4rsh19-ek5jVUw1KsxJe/w640-h376/Knot-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. The sun was out and it was a nice mild day. I didn't find anything unusual but there were plenty of the usual woodland suspects on show. </p><p>A Kestrel was hovering over the lakeside vegetation for a good 10 minutes, and made a couple of unsuccessful swoops, but it allowed me to stand and admire the beauty of this majestic bird. Never underestimated by me, it's a really special bird.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Kestrel</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCteDeOdmdNLUb7ijFw9GrnS6QtVoS8xM6TDPFaZQmI3ZLtBLhC4i9fxCSIp3hV_civnv2LatHMgYIWtDdZMm2tNbyif97BNIwHdfcQUxsjKzNQRL6j7hFAK7B6Vn1CHmsVEigu1X7hXYsbDzDT7eC3YtLitY9Y_q4sbOE_d96TcLOV8LoCmaywM-f35fy/s1516/Kestrel-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="955" data-original-width="1516" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCteDeOdmdNLUb7ijFw9GrnS6QtVoS8xM6TDPFaZQmI3ZLtBLhC4i9fxCSIp3hV_civnv2LatHMgYIWtDdZMm2tNbyif97BNIwHdfcQUxsjKzNQRL6j7hFAK7B6Vn1CHmsVEigu1X7hXYsbDzDT7eC3YtLitY9Y_q4sbOE_d96TcLOV8LoCmaywM-f35fy/w640-h404/Kestrel-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>The bridal path was packed full of birds and the constant calling of Long-tailed Tits, Nuthatch and Treecreepers. So much so, that I have been doing a lot of my birding recently from the lounge window. Not ideal, and it limits the number of species that I can see. That said, I'm quite lucky to a good variety of the Tit family visit the feeders and trees. Jays have passed through recently and a few Goldcrests. </p><p>I have a new feeder that I can highly recommend from Kingsyard. (Click on the Kingsyard link here on the right) <a href="https://www.kingsyard.com/kingsyard-metal-mesh-wild-bird-feeder-kybf106cp-us.html" target="_blank">Kingsyard</a> </p><p>This particular feeder is constructed really well, and is very sturdy. It has two different sizes of mesh, which means you can put different size seeds or food in each half. It also has a tray along the bottom that holds all the food like a trough. The water shield on the top unscrews so that you can put your food in. Again, this is a very sturdy acrylic that will keep the food dry in the rain and hopefully it will act as a baffle for the resident squirrels. The birds seem to like it and I'm really pleased with it. It has made the rainy days a little less miserable when I look out to it.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtboIbxOQdBXDppNt7d7WHEI-Cm6snxPh0OeM9tegalUgSj0WvGhGXZfWUipWBEngfdzlhFNkgZyY5uYEJvqvSY2y3vmVzvXmKS4ssnH9sgvKZonPzYhUkDrRmc815pOYkjLLIAJZ-MH8OyzllvDt_RJvKIoMEa0HLUF0Mqjminuv7nr9LxN8jCFko4NVr/s4514/Bird%20Feeder%20-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2812" data-original-width="4514" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtboIbxOQdBXDppNt7d7WHEI-Cm6snxPh0OeM9tegalUgSj0WvGhGXZfWUipWBEngfdzlhFNkgZyY5uYEJvqvSY2y3vmVzvXmKS4ssnH9sgvKZonPzYhUkDrRmc815pOYkjLLIAJZ-MH8OyzllvDt_RJvKIoMEa0HLUF0Mqjminuv7nr9LxN8jCFko4NVr/w640-h398/Bird%20Feeder%20-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">The Coal Tits are really big fans. With many ledges built out of the cliff you can see down on to the birds and get very close as they fly by at eye level.</p><p>These Guillemots were happy enough being closely packed in, but made a constant din of noise just to ward off their neighbours in case they got too close.</p><p>Below you can see a Bridled Guillemot with a white ring around its eye. It looks like it's wearing glasses.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZbm-WEPyEteXNZiX8MF2_aSfAlAMzgqejNWxiRqKIk0JQpO-nayvk-84eVLJXpXxPpqFZcXyKYqdGi2rg1-uJSdcRAsFShC66adyLZJ8u_yxsTNqr1jngx_4aMAdiFnoC4fq6Pa_YHz35Da0I5mC-slmUf3ZPgd5AWM6yYhFe6dIvNFDVNDYh75ug4g/s3308/Bridled%20Guilemot-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; It was a lovely warm morning and the sun was also just in the right place as he landed in front of me on a garden gate. What an absolutely stunning bird this is, and they are only 10 miles away from my doorstep.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Male Redstart</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSwQ71a0wsWtXWH7ovV4pj3X4XLKOxhEHFmuFxyyk5cUhxc8HFTVsA276gzgSfvQa2P47s2Islw4xYFWx_rF4ditSzVyu1ZG8aQU7LbkVEr-t1dCtj8OzRD5hACrGpM5T7NBfhCiF8ndbhcD5Dd_jm-cNA3evUVt6Ck2NmVrXinpM7AbMwjsNgTzc7GncU/s2202/Redstart2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1412" data-original-width="2202" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSwQ71a0wsWtXWH7ovV4pj3X4XLKOxhEHFmuFxyyk5cUhxc8HFTVsA276gzgSfvQa2P47s2Islw4xYFWx_rF4ditSzVyu1ZG8aQU7LbkVEr-t1dCtj8OzRD5hACrGpM5T7NBfhCiF8ndbhcD5Dd_jm-cNA3evUVt6Ck2NmVrXinpM7AbMwjsNgTzc7GncU/w640-h410/Redstart2-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYWJ7YtiG9YnrpfbergTuJOSCuBSuENSDyuNHo-wSfBiDresbGtzVNzV1IwYCrtxuhOwqJGg1nuT5JAr1i7MbMk-4c_cyBKUgm_kbaMctMMS-CipvCnxlaFFe-r6iZWm_isz_icywbC1XTSnpNt2hBIG7wCOACOZvZfreicsW7MhL5Qh6WFagyAalWOAiL/s1720/Redstart4-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1720" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYWJ7YtiG9YnrpfbergTuJOSCuBSuENSDyuNHo-wSfBiDresbGtzVNzV1IwYCrtxuhOwqJGg1nuT5JAr1i7MbMk-4c_cyBKUgm_kbaMctMMS-CipvCnxlaFFe-r6iZWm_isz_icywbC1XTSnpNt2hBIG7wCOACOZvZfreicsW7MhL5Qh6WFagyAalWOAiL/w640-h400/Redstart4-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvEC-qE8U7xWq684I-UeOD1I3_FXvyz2lG7piLZcCi30Kluetx0Bfyi9ldJLq09uHO4bHc0RdGiwO0J5kPq4jVFZj160gFCfKSuCAMTEEG8lRPfZbP77Nr6HIA9qPcUQQpBWedNHtLH9tMNdu6OXTHxFcmleBjNktw8LkRjCSCsx_E52zrfCaSdfZ1ojWL/s2143/Redstart5-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1396" data-original-width="2143" height="416" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvEC-qE8U7xWq684I-UeOD1I3_FXvyz2lG7piLZcCi30Kluetx0Bfyi9ldJLq09uHO4bHc0RdGiwO0J5kPq4jVFZj160gFCfKSuCAMTEEG8lRPfZbP77Nr6HIA9qPcUQQpBWedNHtLH9tMNdu6OXTHxFcmleBjNktw8LkRjCSCsx_E52zrfCaSdfZ1ojWL/w640-h416/Redstart5-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZPb_YvvjSAKBBnb5ZmRjuA3UrSVLNp48quLFbb0-r-87N5P0TTt9QlhGnV-PW02ki95pndZFh23wBE53YvjwqG7w21HWurpAYBfwrijZiXdshn9pTSi5GdWEHrZ1uKJnmwO5wvBokUoQf-5_1ZfoJnPTQ6x7OVcQ7GjaqGsreqEi8xdRXT-d5JdJ_aIIB/s2422/Redstart-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1574" data-original-width="2422" height="416" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZPb_YvvjSAKBBnb5ZmRjuA3UrSVLNp48quLFbb0-r-87N5P0TTt9QlhGnV-PW02ki95pndZFh23wBE53YvjwqG7w21HWurpAYBfwrijZiXdshn9pTSi5GdWEHrZ1uKJnmwO5wvBokUoQf-5_1ZfoJnPTQ6x7OVcQ7GjaqGsreqEi8xdRXT-d5JdJ_aIIB/w640-h416/Redstart-SharpenAI-Focus.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2018 Adam Jones. Just two weeks before on a visit to my usual sites, there were none to be seen, but on this occasion I found 3 pairs and they weren't hanging around. All were busy nest building in various tree cavities and outbuildings. A great sign that these may have some young to feed this year. Unfortunately, when I returned a few weeks later only one site was still active, with both birds busy feeding. There was no sign of the pair that had been building a nest in an open tree cavity. There was not even any moss, so it's quite possible this was predated. Fingers crossed for the one nest that was still going strong, and hopefully some young fletched successfully.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnt66NohjL-uEJYokcayhxOg4cwQxjy7eDguQ8dUxX72QSX4q9cOnaS4Gn9FE0b_A7NLMGwT7grLROEFI0P4GVdxvid0hrDoxEduymJPgHWHv_ULwJc2tILWMQuGxGCiOHGshxzGSnicv0zeWtYDS3k-7NxUEo1RRRpdnihjtCTc9in8QCFSGWAx3L6OeJ/s2650/Spotted%20Flycatcher1-SharpenAI-Motion.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; Sometimes the birds singing will be kind and show themselves to you before dropping down out of sight again. It can be a long wait and you have to be ready with the binoculars or camera for the brief glimpse. </p><p>I was fortunate to have some decent light and some quick views when I last visited my parents. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Reed Warbler</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
